Lighting Modes
By Streamlight Team
One comment we frequently hear at trade shows is “My light gets really hot, and I wish it had a longer run time.” Did you know that most of our flashlights have multiple lighting modes? The modes are designed to serve different purposes.
High – for maximum illumination when the brightest light is necessary to perform a task (or to impress your friends). While using high mode, your flashlight can become warm to the touch, so it’s ideal for short time use or those initial quick blasts of light for first inspections.
Medium – provides ample light and longer run time for continued use during everyday tasks. You will still get intense light with increased run time and your flashlight won’t get as hot as quickly.
Low – for lower-level lighting. Ideal when super bright light isn’t as important, but longer run times are. Check your specific model, low mode doesn’t mean you won’t get a lot of light. In many cases you will still get plenty of light to accomplish most tasks. Another benefit is that your eyes won’t tire as quickly.
Other lighting modes available on varying models (for specific purposes):
- SOS – blinks in the Morse Code SOS pattern to signal for help
- Moonlight Mode – for extended battery life in emergency situations - runs up to 20 days
- Flash – for signaling your location, for site safety, etc.
- Strobe – to disorient the bad guy (or to annoy your friends)
Note: There is a difference between flash and strobe. They “blink” at different frequencies.
Many models have TEN-TAP® Programming, which lets you set the order of the lighting modes.
