You might be surprised to know that, situated deep in the back of our headquarters here in Eagleville, PA, we have an indoor shooting range. We built our facility to include the range so that our engineers and product development team are able to test our products.
The range is where our gun-mounted flashlights, such as the new TLR-7® A and TLR-9® are tested prior to shipping to our law enforcement and sporting goods customers across the country. It is important to us that we test them to make sure that the lights perform as expected for our customers.
When using the gun range, we are primarily performing function tests, as we want to ensure that the light it holds up against the shock and recoil of the weapon, and maintains it durability. One of the tools we use is an accelerometer, which allows us to read the acceleration of the recoil in G-forces. Another is the Ransom Rest Test, or machine test, which takes the shooter error out of the equation when testing for grouping performance. We use that test for our weapon-mounted lights with lasers like the TLR-8® A or TLR-2® HL G.
