STREAMLIGHT REGIONAL SALES MANAGER LEADS OUTWARD BOUND CAMP FOR C.O.P.S.

Brian Osborn, a Streamlight regional sales manager for law enforcement and sporting goods products, recently volunteered his time to help lead an Outward Bound adventure for C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc.).

Kids whose lives were touched by the death of a parent who was a law officer had the opportunity to bond with each other as they experienced the adventure of a lifetime. They spent a week in the great outdoors, braving heat of over 105F, facing sandstorms, and sleeping in tents or under the stars as they rafted 97 miles of the Colorado River.

Outward Bound is the leading provider of experiential and outdoor education programs for youth and adults. Its programs are designed to prepare students of all ages with the strength of character and determination they need to thrive.

C.O.P.S., one of the organizations that Streamlight is proud to support, helps survivors of fallen police officers rebuild their shattered lives.

When these two organizations got together the experience had a profound impact on the kids and their mentors. Brian Osborn is a former police officer and a “co-worker survivor,” so he understands the struggles these kids face in their lives, and he’s able to relate to them.

Brian has lots of stories from his Outward Bound adventure of kids coming together and forming strong bonds as they faced the extremes of nature. This is just one very moving example:

“A young man that I mentored had his father shot and killed only last year. He was angry at times and wanted nothing to do with this trip, but his mom had sent him anyway. He initially refused to take part in any activities. I made it my goal to show this kid that we were here for him. By the end of the week, this young man openly apologized in a group for his anger and told everyone that he had enjoyed the week and the friendship that he and I had built. I was shocked when he stated that he would be coming back next year so that he could hang out with his friend Brian.”

We couldn’t be more proud that Brian is part of the Streamlight family.

C.O.P.S. Outward Bound® Adventure is planned for teenagers and young adults (15-20 years of age) who are children of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, as determined by C.O.P.S. criteria. Space is limited for this program.Outward Bound® is an adventure-based program structured to inspire character development, self-discovery, compassion for others and to actively engage in creating a better world. This year’s Outward Bound® Adventure will be a water rafting trip taking place on the Colorado River through the Cataract Canyon in the Canyonlands National Park in Utah. This program is designed to challenge surviving children to overcome the obstacles they face in their lives after losing their parent to a line-of-duty death and allow them to be surrounded by peers who genuinely understand what they are going through.
