Streamlight Celebrates 48 Years!
Today marks 48 years of Streamlight! Over the past 48 years, Streamlight has grown and changed in many ways to become the company we know and love today.
In 1973, Streamlight was a new company, made up of only six employees designing and engineering the first Streamlight flashlight: the Stream Lite – 1 Million. Why the name? This flashlight was the first commercial light to produce one million candlepower, which was about 50 times brighter than the high beams of an automobile at the time!
The original flyer for the Stream Lite – 1 Million describes the light as “lightweight” and “compact,” but today, it would be much more comparable to our Firebox® Series, weighing in at around seven pounds! While it was lightweight and compact relative to the time, we think our new MacroStream® USB and Wedge™ flashlights are better representations of compact Streamlight flashlights.
Today, we’re proud to say that we hold over 150 U.S. patents, and over 100 U.S. and Foreign Trademarks. We develop more market and user-specific flashlights than any other professional lighting supplier, manufacturing high-performance lighting, weapon and tactical lights, and scene lighting solutions for professional law enforcement, military, firefighting, industrial, automotive, outdoor, and everyday carry applications. In recent years, we’ve grown to be over 300 employees strong and expanded our headquarters with a 75,000 square foot warehouse.
It’s clear that a lot has changed since our first flashlight, but what hasn’t is our commitment to providing quality products to our customers. While we are excited to see where we are in another 48 years, we know one thing will stay the same: our loyal customers will be by our side, trusting our lights.
